On October 27th, 2006, Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Company Ltd. held a grand ceremony in Wuhan to lay a cornerstone at the start of construction of a second Peugeot-Citroen car factory. The visiting French president Jacques Chirac also attended the ceremony on Friday. DPCA's Second Wuhan Factory whose location is in vicinity of the first plant, plans to have an annual production capacity of 150,000 units. It will fully make use of various resource advantages of the first plant so as to reduce cost in logistic, production preparation as well as on-site management. Construction of the Second Plant is supposed to complete in 2009 and go into production in the same year. The Second Plant will introduce the No.3 High-end Vehicle Platform to broaden its product line. At least 8 more models will be launched from 2007 to 2009 after the successful launch of 3 models this year. As the largest Sino-France passenger vehicle JV in China, DPCA, which was established in May 1992, has accumulated rich experience in product technology and operational administration in the past 14 years. Sales volume has increased from 50,000 units in 2001 to 140,000 units in 2005 and it is expected to exceed 200,000 units by the end of this year. Sales volume achieved a YoY increase of 57% last year. Aggregate sales in the first nine months this year amounted to 145,000 units, outnumbered last year's whole year total, representing a YoY growth of 38%. A good growth momentum is still expected in the coming few months.
